Hi! Before ask my problem I wanted to congratulated for this forum and this page how to, its incredible and fantastic...
I fighted 1 week with Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, Courier, MySQL And SquirrelMail (Ubuntu 8.10) because I run http://localhost/squirrelmail:

ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

My /var/log/mail.log containing in the finish file...:

May 28 13:02:22 server1 imapd: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
May 28 13:19:40 server1 imapd: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
May 28 13:19:40 server1 imapd: chdir example.com/maykel/: No such file or directory

I creating manually the mailbox with commands:

maildirmake maildir

But I logged the results are bad because the page is blank...

I saw the file for this /etc/postfix, /etc/courier...

I don't know...I'm desperate

I did the manually perfectly but my results are bad...

I create the domains manually diferent of example.com

example2.com

And the postfix created maildir in /home/vmail...very good but /var/log/mail.log tell follow:

May 28 22:15:29 server1 imapd: authentication error: Input/output error

How did you resolve your problem? I have the same problem ... I created three e-mail accounts in my internal domain, but i can only connect with the first..

In the tables mysql, you don`t write anything into the forwarding and transport, you had empty and connect try again.
The plugin of change mysql pass not installed...recommended...

I followed your advice, but I have not solved my problem...

I used the HowtoForge guide step by step without errors and I created a fake domain ( dominio.it) with three accounts: info@dominio.it; pippo@dominio.it; bug@dominio.it.

I cannot understand why only one account works:info@dominio.it its ok, but the others riport the same message: "ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server."..

Sorry, but if I remove the setting in the section "transport" and "forwarding" i cannot send message outside my internal mailserver, for example gmail...and the message error is this:
"A message from <info@dominio.it> to:
-> xxxxxx@gmail.com

The message carried your return address, so it was either a genuine mail
from you, or a sender address was faked and your e-mail address abused

I used debian but also you have implementer on ubuntu.

Did you see the mail log in /var/log/mail.log?

I set the permissions (write and read) for the user pippo with the command "chmod 775" into the home " /home/vmail/dominio.it/pippo.... but nothing has changed....

The directories must be owned by the user vmail.
