everything was working great then I had to do restart and my gnome login disappeared all I see is black screen with a busy mouse cursor. All though I can still access the server no problem
If I press alt-ctrl-f1 I get the terminal window and can login as root or any of my users (alt-ctrl-f7 black screen with waiting cursor), but if I try to start the gui, this is what happens:
in "terminal mode" I try "X" resulting in:
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.
... trying "startx" produces an identical message as above then a small pause then this message:
Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keygiving up.
xinit: Resource temporarily unavailable (errno 11): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
So I tried init 1 and I am able to start gnome using either X or startx but if I try init 5 the above happens. I am very new to Linux with a basic understanding of the basic commands to get me by or in trouble. Any help on resolving this would be great.
Thanks in advance.
