Complete Newbie at Linux
I wish to try and install Linux with a KDE desktop to eventually replace Windows Altogether. I submitted my equipment to a quiz, and it said Freespire was the best Distro, but you don't appear to cover it. PCLinuxOS is about the nearest that you do.
I will need to use the proprietary codecs as I have a lot of software that needs to still run on the new system. I use Movie Maker a lot to make movies not only for myself, but certain charities for promotional purposes. Any movie making software must be able to save the movie in a format that will run on windows, or else a way must be found of running Movie Maker on linux
I already use programs such as OpenOffice, The GIMP, Openproj, ans Scribus, albeit in their windows incarnations
Any advice to a complete newbie as to the best method of proceeding would be very welcome
Thanking you in anticipation of some illuminating replies
