It seems that "make" is not installed on your system. Please install these basic compile tools and packages:

apt-get install binutils cpp cpp-4.0 fetchmail flex gcc gcc-4.0 libarchive-zip-perl libc6-dev libcompress-zlib-perl libdb4.3-dev libpcre3 libpopt-dev linux-kernel-headers lynx m4 make ncftp nmap openssl perl perl-modules unzip zip zlib1g-dev autoconf automake1.9 libtool bison autotools-dev

Btw, I'm not a total linux noob, but figuring out why software won't install is kinda beyond me

Thanks for your help

There must have been an error before what you posted. Please post the complete error message.
BTW, if you start a new installation attempt, make sure you delete the old install_ispconfig directory (if existing) and unpack the ISPConfig tar.gz again.

| You now have successfully built and installed the |

| Or when you want to run it with SSL enabled use: |

| /root/ispconfig/httpd/bin/apachectl startssl

Default There is a whole thread on your error but....

I will help you out, if you install libmysql14_dev then it will solve your issues, i also installed flex, so i dont know if you need to do that, but i can almost tell you that with the server install on ubuntu, you need that lib. After that you should be able to compile.
