i am working on just that at the moment, trying both a cisco css 11500 load balancer and round robin dns load balancing. multiple postfix servers, connecting to a nas for centralised storage and mysql replication to keep all the databases the same for usernames and passwords, still in it's infancy stage though but work is being done on it daily!!

Do you intend to write a tutorial about it when it's done?
