SPF: Setup & Why?

Hi:

My system currently uses ISPconfig 2.x. I have two questions about SPF that are causing me some stress.

1. The major is that I am not that familiar with SPF set up and whilst I have looked at some other threads that give some clues, I am still not getting it right. (I have gone through http://old.openspf.org/wizard.html - and I am still a bit confused) I have basically set it up, but when I dig the domain for txt records, I don't see it. If someone could walk me through the ISPconfig setup step-by-step that would be great.

2. If someone is not using their domain to send mail, is SPF still required (this may be a really silly question - please excuse it if it is - I have been told that the stupidest question is the one not asked )

Hi,

1) Not sure how you are doing the dig, but it should be dig fornow.eu TXT
With a bit of luck you should get the SPF record back. (in the above case)

fornow.eu. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 -all"

2) It's up to you, but if you do not use it for sending, you could set it to v=spf1 -all what stands for no mail is send from this domain.
