Default Migrating mailboxes (courier to courier)

I've just set up a postfix server with courier and need to migrate mailboxes from another server. Both have courier running but the problem is the old server has its mailbox contents in "/home/vmail/example.se/user1/.maildir/" for some reason.
On my new server the mailbox contents are stored directly in "/home/vmail/example.se/user1/".

I'm new to linux and this is my first time setting up a postfix server so I really need some advice. Any advice on how to solve this? The old server has to stay up at all times and I dare not install any new stuff on it.

You could use imapsync to migrate.

thanks for the reply. How does that work? How will it solve my problem? I've been googling after an easy to understand guide but without luck.
