How to make ispconf only work as email server?
Hi,there:
I followed the following instructions and setup my ispconfigure.Everything goes smoothly.
http://www.howtoforge.com/installing..._fedora_core_6
Now I have some questions as follows:
My domain name was issued by yahoo.com(I appled MX,A from yahoo.com),my DNS was run by my small DSL ISP company(because they gave me primary and second DNS ip address),I hosted my own website by using DSL,I have one router.I have hosted www.mywebsite on my 192.168.1.2,and I installed ispconf on my 192.168.1.3.Now I would like to use 192.168.1.3 to run my own email server by using ispconfig program. So is it possible that ispconfig can work as my email server?how can I configure it?Do you have some good practical links so that I can follow them to reach my goal?
Thanks and have a nice day!
Harry

Till,
Thanks for your reply.
I am still using ISPconfig2.X,because I am trying to practice it according your following link:
http://www.howtoforge.com/ispconfig-2.x-first-steps
If I like to try your ISPconfig 3 rc,should I install Fedora 9?because I am using fedora 6 now.
have a nice day!

You'd use ISPConfig as normal, i.e., create web sites and then email addresses (on ISPConfig 2, you cannot create email addresses without a web site).
You must configure your router to forward port 25 and 110 to your mail server (also 143 if you want to use IMAP).
If you are on a dynamic IP address, it is most likely blacklisted (check http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx ); you'd then need to relay through another mailserver: http://www.howtoforge.com/postfix_re...her_mailserver

Falko,
Thanks for your reply.
I do have a static IP address.I used to put my web server in one machine(192.168.1.2),and on another machine 192.168.1.3,I installed Qmail as my email server,I could send receive and send emails without relaying through another mailserver.
You said:

I can't figure it out the logic relationship in my situation, because I already have a web site in another machine(hosted by another machine),then how can I create the same website in the ISPconfig?you mean I have to move all the contents from my 192.168.1.2 machine to my ISPconfig 192.168.1.3 machine?...
Thanks!

You will have to create the sites in ispconfig as falko pointed out. This does not mean that you have to use them or move any website data. they are just needed to create email accounts.

Till,
Thanks for your hint.
I think I am going to open 25,110,143 ports on my router to point to my ispconf mail server then to use the following link you gave to me to do the configuration first:
http://www.howtoforge.com/ispconfig-2.x-first-steps
If I have any problem,I am going to post it here.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend!
