Thumbs up I'm Building a New System and Need Your Help

Hi HowToForge Members,
After dabbling with various Linux distros in VMware, I have finally decided to take the plunge and go to a new desktop running Linux. I'm building my own machine with the specs below and would like your thoughts on the best Linux distro to run with it. Right now, I'm thinking kUbuntu 8.0.4 - 64-bit edition but I really would like any input.

Here are the system hardware specs:
- CPU: AMD Phenom 9650 2.3GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HD9650WCGHBOX
- Motherboard: ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI uATX
- RAM: 8GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
- Hard Disk: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your time!

Best Regards,
Josh

I'd use an Ubuntu-based distro, e.g. Ubuntu 8.10, Kubuntu 8.10, Ubuntu Studio 8.10, Linux Mint 6, etc. Which one you pick depends on your taste.
