Question Advise on HTTP/mail server

Dear all,
i am new to Linux and i need advise as to what do i have to choose for the HTTP/mail server, how to configure it and where i could get the tutorial for it. I am currently using Hardy Heron and i like it. I used to be a microsoft oriented but i started to like Linux.

I have googled arround to find a clear path and understanding on how to 'play' with HTTP / mail server, but there are lots of information and i do not know which one is the correct things to follow. I basically wanted to configure my PC for HTTP/Mail server. Any advise on this request will be dearly needed.

apache is still the undisputed leader in terms of web servers but you could use lighttpd as well dont know if they have fixed the nasty memory licks that it had some time ago.

For mail servers you have several options sendmail, postfix, exim and qmail i would recomend postfix or exim as there abounds documentation on running those, sendmail is also well documented.
