I still have that problem because I'm grounded (no Internet connection at home) but I'll do more tests and reinstalls.
My burner works very well on Windows and I'm very happy of it.Maybe You got a damaged burner ?

I have just fully updated my Ubuntu 8.04 and once again tried to burn a DVD.
This time it worked. I'm not really sure what fixed the problem but I bet it was the updates.

Man Iím sorry that I canít help you with the Ubuntu 8.04
But Iím sure that I can help you in another way.
Go to the site http://freecddvdburner.com/
And download the program StarBurn, this one is a powerful burning a grabbing software with not only you will be able burn CDs also DVDs, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD media.
It also allows you to split DVD-Video discs into smaller parts and burn them to DVD writable discs and watch DVD videos directly on your PC.
And the best of all is that is a 100% free.
Hope you funded useful.

First of all you can uninstall K3B and then reinstall K3B software and then you can check with burn process. And then if problem continue then you have to download latest version of that burning software.
