Default Slackware 12 slow firefox

Good day.

I'm new to Slackware and thinks its the best thing since sliced bread. Yes it is a bit hard getting around if you used to XP but I like it.

I installed Slackware 12 and think SlackBuild is very handy.

I found that Firefox is slower and doesn't allow you to open a website if you're downloading something. I have tested my connection on my XP laptop and all seems fine. Is there any thing I can do to speed up Firefox or is there some default setting
that prevent me to have more that one connection at a time.

Thanks for a great website and all the friendly help so far.
