ill try to explain what if do with my poor english.
I allways install ubuntu server and vmware server, and then, the real server (other ubuntu server or windows, thats depends on every client).
When all its installed and working, u take a copy of the entire system. Periodically, i take copies of the entire systems.

If i need a bigger server, i install userver on the new server, and i just have to copy the vm... and thats all, the new server is working.

If my server crashes, i get another computer and put the virtual machine on it, it quick and simple.

I hope i have help you

Take a look at http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu-7.1...u-repositories
It explains how to find out which distros are supported.

falko thanks for your post.

I think i will stick with lenny .

i was thinking of running gdm on domU lenny leaving dom0 clean x free and simple. then in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf do this;

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

Then : /etc/init.d/gdm restart

finally on dom0 run X :0 -query ipofdomU?

what do you think / any suggestions?

I haven't quite understood what you're planning to do...
