Default How to setup VMware Tools in Ubuntu7.10

I'm running both 7.04 and 7.10 in VMware. I followed the install procedure
Titled: How To Set Up VMware Tools On Various Linux Distributions

I used the the procedure for 7.10, it installed, ok!
but I cant copy & paste!

is there a fix available?

cheers!

No!.... thats strange part. Both times the install went flawlessly.
both version showed the VMware Tools menu when you type
"vmware-toolbox" into terminal
Except, that the 7.10 version would NOT copy and paste.

Today however when I started 7.10, I could copy and paste between it an XP
But I could NOT copy and paste using 7.04.

For some strange reason things have reversed.

tearing hair out wont help either

Did another cold reboot:

Now I see yesterdays install of Vmware Tools is already outdated today,
that why I could NOT copy and paste using 7.04.

Now maybe tomorrow I'll find out 7.10 is also outdated
right now all is OK

cheers!
