Angry debian stable packages often not latest production version

For example, the debian stable version for Bugzilla is version 2 something.

But the latest production release of Bugzilla is at version 3 something.

This is silly because it is duplicate effort: The makers of Bugzilla, Mozilla, themselves decide upon a production quality version. Then debian themselves also decide upon what version they are going to call stable.

So if you want the features in the latest production quality version then you can't take advantage of the easy installation provided by the debian package system.

Instead you have to install it manually which can be very awkward: having to deal with permissions, security, paths and environment variables that the package system would deal with for you.

Another example of why progress in the Linux world is hampered due to making a virtue out of complexity.
