I tried to install using bootable dvd. Installer did not run, so I post the first question. After little fiddle with bios, I manage to install SuSE 9.3 but still could not get it to recognise SATA hard disk.

I guess that SUSE 9.3 doesn't have the necessary drivers for your SATA disk.
I'd recommend to try OpenSUSE 10.3 instead - it should come with the drivers needed by your HDD.
I have problems with my application, bought at high price, which cannot be used with linux that does not support old type process id. OpenSuSE 10.3 uses threads and processes which my application gets confuse and behave unexpectedly.
