Default Can't see tape drive

I previously had WBEL4 installed and was able to see my scsi DLT tape drive with no problem.

But now I have Ubuntu 7.04 (server) and the tape drive cannot be seen.

it does not appear in /dev nor is it listed in demsg. I have not changed the hardware configuration at all just the OS.

Does Ubuntu have problems with tape drives ?
Does the Adaptec Controller require special drivers ?

or am I missing something ?

Thanks.
