direction on web site hosting

I did not know were to post this question. I am setting up lamp on centOS to host a php script I bought. My question is, were do I go to find out how to configure the server before I install the script? (database setup, mail prep, ect..)Or maybe a hyperlink to a site or what to serch for on the web for help running and maintaining the server. I understan a server is only as good as the person running it. I am willing to learn, but am new to hosting my own server. Thanks for the info. \P.S. even payed sites would be helpfull or books to get. Thank's cruz
