Default My first server.. mysql. problems /w Ubuntu Lamp Server

This is my first lamp server. I am pretty excited about the results so far, but i ran into some problems.

I am running Ubuntu Lamp server 6.0.6 LTS
and i followign the directions step by step.
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_6.06_p2

As you can tell from the image below, I get an error

error: 'Host 'server1.(MYDOMAIN).com' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server'

I am assuming for the directions, not meaning sound noobish but we DO replace the mysqlpassword with your own in the command line. Correct?

I have registered my domain and have it pointed it my static ip. I use a router which i have my server exposed through the dmz. I can access ssh anywhere. as well as the default apache page...

any help will be much appreciatted!
BTW Falko your howto is amazingly thorough!

Almost all of the ISPConfig tutorials have the following commands which numerous people have problems with:

mysqladmin -u root password yourrootsqlpassword
mysqladmin -h server1.example.com -u root password yourrootsqlpassword
The first command should work without problems. If you have problems with the second one, it's because there is another hostname than server1.example.com in the mysql.users table. You can forget about this now and correct it later with phpMyAdmin. Restart MySQL afterwards.
