Question PHP files download from browser, not display on some sites?

Hi,

In the course of today trying to upgrade my functionality to use the Remoting framework - I STILL NEED HELP!! (see my latest post, with difficulties: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/sho...94&postcount=3 )

NOW, I have a strange problem: for a site, http://www.mydomain.com/ this exact URL loads the index.php page (as it should) and uses PHP to present the page as it should appear. In other words, the page appears as normal and as expected.

On the other hand, when I switch to http://www.mydomain.com/a_folder/a_file.php my broswer prompts me to download the .php file as if the server doesn't know how to compile it?

I've looked around the web for answers, but there are little... Here are some I have encountered and tried:

1. Enable "Short tag" use in php.ini file

Result - No change, same strange behaviour

2. Reboot Apache from root, /etc/init.d/httpd restart

Result, No change...

3. Reboot server

Result, No change...

I don't know what to do! I suspect this is a PHP/Apache issue but can't put my finger on it... Maybe instead it is .htaccess for any URL outside of the domain address??????

Thanks in advance for your help... BTW anyone who has had success installed Remoting and using it please advise on my other post - it is greatly appreciated: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/sho...94&postcount=3

Is there an .htaccess file in the a_folder directory?
