Default VMWare on Ubuntu 6.06 problem

I followed the howto on this and I'm totally new to linux and vmware. Everything works great until I reboot. I can't access the management interface. I have to do the last two steps for installing the management interface to get it working.

mkdir /var/run/vmware/httpd
chown www-data:www-data /var/run/vmware/httpd

After I restart the folder is gone. What am I missing? Thanks.
