Default Ubuntu Server 12 does not read my keyboard input

I recently installed Ubuntu Server 12 on my machine, in an attempt to build a home server. Installation completes successfully, but I cannot key in my password on login because the systems does not read my keyboard. Is there something I did not do or should not have done? How do I sort this out. Please help me.
