Perfect server possible with php5-fpm on Squeeze

Hello folks,

I have been looking to change to nginx + php-fpm, however some joomla extensions I use that rely heavily on .htaccess files prevent me from going this route. So I am stuck with apache2.


Curently I use this perfect server:

And I saw this tutorial as well:

Since Debian and Ubuntu are cousin-ish so to speak, I hope it makes it easier for me.

Would it be a simple matter of replacing in the perfect server tutorial:

"apache2-mpm-prefork" with "apache2-mpm-worker"
"libapache2-mod-fcgid" with "libapache2-mod-fastcgi"

And then completing the extra steps listed in the php5-fpm tutorial prior to continuing to step 13 in perfect server tutorial?

Finally as a last question, I know Falko and Till do installs on their business side. Could one hire you for an install like this one and then pay an extra fee to have a tutorial made from it?

The nginx and php packages in squeeze are too old, so they will not work and for that resaon there is no tutorial for nginx on ddebian. You can either use the packages from dotdeb or you use debian testing instead of stable.

Hello all,


I am sorry to resurrect a dead post, however I was reading some blogs and stumbled onto a few sites that made me rethink this original post.

If you take a look at these few sites:

These sites all describe using php-fpm and worker with apache2. Now I know Till and Falko both recommend the nginx /php-fpm especially for busier sites etc. There are plenty of tutorials on howtoforge for this.

However I am still using Joomla since it is easy to use. And a few of the extensions I use MUST have .htaccess files to properly function, so that screws me out of using nginx as far as I can tell.





Would it be possible to modify the perfect server tutorial here:

with Worker instead of prefork and with php-fpm?



Also I asked this in the original post, but can I pay for a custom ISPConfig install such as above and then pay extra for a tutorial pdf to be made from it?

Well after poking around the forums like I usually do, I came across this post from May 2012.

So even if you all told me a workaround for getting PHP-fpm and worker and all that to play nice, ISPConfig 3 won't officially support it until ISPConfig 3.0.5 comes out.

So with that in mind I'll let this post die again lol and I'll resurrect it again in mid to late summer-ish lol


When you guys roll out 3.0.5 will you update the ISPConfig 3 manual as well to reflect the additional functionality etc like using php-fpm with apache?

Yes, as usual. The Manual gets updated for every major version like 3.0.4, 3.0.5, 3.0.6. etc.
