Default Linux desktops susceptibility to botnets?

I refer to an article by Russinovich:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/blog/sec...ion-pcs-139683

My impression is that these things are being written to exploit Windows clients and servers, correct or not? And that Linux desktops are pretty not affected?

Any comments and/or feedback would be appreciated.
