Default installing squirrelmail on Debian with ispconfig3

Hi,

I was wondering what the installation and configuration process is for squirrelmail on debian multiserver setup.

Fist I install squirrelmail :

Quote:
apt-get install squirrelmail
then create symlink? :

Quote:
ln -s /usr/share/squirrelmail/ /var/www/webmail
then configure squirrelmail :

Quote:
squirrelmail-configure
Do I then customise the following, using the same settings?, if not what should they be? :

Quote:
SquirrelMail Configuration : Read: config.php (1.4.0)
---------------------------------------------------------
Main Menu --
1. Organization Preferences
2. Server Settings
3. Folder Defaults
4. General Options
5. Themes
6. Address Books
7. Message of the Day (MOTD)
8. Plugins
9. Database
10. Languages

D. Set pre-defined settings for specific IMAP servers

C Turn color on
S Save data
Q Quit

Command >> <-- D

SquirrelMail Configuration : Read: config.php
---------------------------------------------------------
While we have been building SquirrelMail, we have discovered some
preferences that work better with some servers that don't work so
well with others. If you select your IMAP server, this option will
set some pre-defined settings for that server.

Please note that you will still need to go through and make sure
everything is correct. This does not change everything. There are
only a few settings that this will change.

Please select your IMAP server:
bincimap = Binc IMAP server
courier = Courier IMAP server
cyrus = Cyrus IMAP server
dovecot = Dovecot Secure IMAP server
exchange = Microsoft Exchange IMAP server
hmailserver = hMailServer
macosx = Mac OS X Mailserver
mercury32 = Mercury/32
uw = University of Washington's IMAP server

quit = Do not change anything
Command >> <-- courier

I was also wondering where abouts I reconfigure squirrelmail to connect to my mail server instead of localhost.

Thanks very much for your time!

I guess you have to configure this in menu item 2. Server Settings in squirrelmail-configure .

Hi Falko,

sorry to be a pain but I have a query about the settings I should use when configuring squirrelmail.

I have noticed that when setting the IMAP server for squirrelmail you do :

Quote:
Please select your IMAP server:courier
But during the setup for Debian, courier is not installed. Does this mean I should install courier?

If so should I follow step 9 of Perfect server install for Debian Lenny? :

Quote:
Install Postfix, Courier, Saslauthd, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, rkhunter, binutils
Then step : 19.2 SquirrelMail?

Thanks very much for your help!

Well, yes, you must follow the whole tutorial, not just parts of it...

Hi Falko,

Just to say that I followed the multiserver setup guide on the ISPConfig manual and ISPConfig works great!

I am however having problems with email. I have seen where I went wrong with the squirrelmail config - use dovecot instead of courier.

I have setup a new domain and mail box in ISPConfig, I can login to squirrelmail, but cannot send or recieve emails. I get the error :

Quote:
Message not sent. Server replied:
Transaction failed
554 5.7.1 <fred@yahoo.co.uk>: Relay access denied
Any ideas?, Thanks very much!.

Are there any errors in your mail log (in the /var/log/ directory)?

What's the output of
Code:
netstat -tap
?

Hi Falko,

I have checked mail.log on my webserver and it is empty, I run netstat -tap and get :
