Default Dastabase Recommendation (MySQL or PostgreSQL)

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on which database is better recommended? I don't have any real requirements other than I'm learning the in's and out's of basic database administration. Obviously Oracle 11g is a little over kill right now for someone learning SQL commands and other database aspects.

Please explain why you recommend either MySQL or PostgreSQL.
