Default Re: Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix...(Ubuntu 9.04)

Hi.

I've been following this guide from the site, which is excellent, and have successfully set everything up. I can log in to Squirrelmail, send and receive through that, change my password etc. but when I try to set the mailbox up in Thunderbird or Claws, I get authentication failures. The SMTP and IMAP settings are correct, and I know that I've entered the username and password exactly, but still it fails.

Looking in /var/log/mail.log, there's a lot of this:

Quote:
Apr 15 15:47:06 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: connect from unknown[78.148.72.112]
Apr 15 15:47:09 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed
Apr 15 15:47:09 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: unknown[78.148.72.112]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Apr 15 15:47:11 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: unknown[78.148.72.112]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Apr 15 15:47:31 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed
Apr 15 15:47:31 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: unknown[78.148.72.112]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Apr 15 15:47:33 server postfix/smtpd[9531]: warning: unknown[78.148.72.112]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Am I supposed to be able to use this with desktop clients as well as the webmail interface, or do I need to do something else in order to have that kind of functionality?

Kind regards,

Joel.

Do you use the email address as the username in your email client?

Yeah, I use the email address as the username. In Thunderbird, this results in a message telling me either the username or password is incorrect.
