Hello

My Login screen disappeared after i have installed ISPConfig Successfully and restarted my PC After installing it ..

i Use fedora core 9 with gnome and kde desktops ..

the problem is in the login screen

The Blue Backgroung shows and the buttom pannel shows but without buttons .. but the username/password window doesn't appear .. i waited so long but the same ..

and i found that quoted post in FC Forum

that guy tested it in FC 8 And I Use FC9 And we have almost the same problem ..

everything was working great then I had to do restart and my gnome login disappeared all I see is black screen with a busy mouse cursor. All though I can still access the server no problem

If I press alt-ctrl-f1 I get the terminal window and can login as root or any of my users (alt-ctrl-f7 black screen with waiting cursor), but if I try to start the gui, this is what happens:

in "terminal mode" I try "X" resulting in:

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.

... trying "startx" produces an identical message as above then a small pause then this message:

Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keygiving up.
xinit: Resource temporarily unavailable (errno 11): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

So I tried init 1 and I am able to start gnome using either X or startx but if I try init 5 the above happens. I am very new to Linux with a basic understanding of the basic commands to get me by or in trouble. Any help on resolving this would be great.

Thanks in advance.

thanks for who would help and would try to help

peace

Default Fix login problem

If you come across the problem where there are no users on the login screen, or there are other problems with th login screen, after installing ISPConfig 2, follow the following instructions.

  • Restart computer
  • Before fedora starts loading press E
  • Pick the line fedora would normally use to boot and edit it
  • Add a (space and then a) 3 onto to the end of the line to boot to runlevel 3
  • Login as root
  • Run the following command "chown root /etc/shells"
  • Run the following command "chmod 777 /etc/shells"
  • Run the following command "vi /etc/shells"
  • Press A to go to insert mode
  • Remove the "/SENDMAIL/ANY/SHELL" line from it
  • Press ESC
  • Type ":wq" to write the changes to the file and quit vi
  • Type reboot
