Default modprobe:FATAL:Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.17.1/modules.dep:No such a file

Help!! I can get my kernel to wotk I read the guide, but Im stuck at boot time I got this

modprobe:FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.17.1/modules.dep: No such a file or directory
modprobe:FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.17.1/modules.dep: No such a file or directory
modprobe:FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.17.1/modules.dep: No such a file or directory

umount: devfs: not mounted
pivot_root: No such a file or directory
/sbin/init: 432: cannot open dev/console:No such a file
Kernel panic - not syncing : Attemped to kill init!

Im guessing that the problem is of devfs, causethe file /lib/modules/2.6.17.1/modules.dep is in there and is fine, any idea?
