Debian Etch with sa-exim & Clamav problem

I had been running a simple mail server for years but the spam got so bad I had to either fix it or shut it down. Well, I never give up. Here is my problem and I hope someone has a direction for me to follow.

I installed Debian Etch
Setup exim4, sa-exim, spamassassin, clamav and followed instruction on all of them. What I have found is this:
If I run Exim4 in non-split config Clamav works but sa-exim (greylist) does not
If I run in split config sa-exim works but clamav does not, I realize I am being picky but I'd like both to work. HELP!

I know I left out what all I changed but I have tried every help setup I can find. Exim-heavy is installed etc.
