All of the VMDK files are VMWare disk images, so you can attach those to the VMWare session and boot from them and or use them in VMWare, etc... What does the readme say? I have always just downloaded the ISO for the guest os I want to install, tell VMWare to boot from that ISO and instlal it just like it was a regular install.
