As you might have noticed the tutorial prepares your system for the installation of ISPConfig. ISPConfig has its own firewall that you can use.
Of course, you can also use the SuSE firewall, but you have to configure it in a way that all services can be reached (e.g., ISPConfig is running on port 81 so that has to be enabled).
