I fixed it!
OK, so I got it working. Not sure why, but on a whim, I went through the Mandrake 2006 setup, and loaded all of the programs we are told to load in that How-To, and it made my install work.
Is it possible that the 2005 LE that I have is some sort of hybrid? Anyway, thank you for the help.
