Default Pure-ftpd cannot see directories

I followed the tutorial "Virtual Hosting With PureFTPd And MySQL (Incl. Quota And Bandwidth Management) On CentOS 5.3"

and got everything setup, i have a user called adhocrac on my system (with usr:grp ids being 501:501). I set it up on mysql:

User: adhocrac
status: 1
Uid: 501
Gid: 501 /home/adhocrac
UL: 0
DL: 0
ipaccess: *
QuotaSize: 0
QuotaFiles: 0

now when I connect to it with an ftp client, it connects successfully but does not show the contents on /home/adhorac

To test it further: i changed ChrootEveryone in the pure-ftpd config file to no and then reconnected. This time it showed all the files in the directory.

The problem is that I don't want the user to be able to no higher than /home/adhocrac.

I want him to be able to go to /home/adhocrac/public_html but not /home

What am I doing wrong here?
