SMTP-AUTH is on by default. There are two scenarios where no authentication is needed: you send from a client that is listed in mynetworks in /etc/postfix/, or you send to a recipient that is on the server. Authentication is needed only if you send from a client not listed in mynetworks and to a recipient on a remote server.
