How recent is the hardware in your PC and was it working fine with another OS installed? Check your hardware clock (BIOS setup) for correct date and time, make sure that their are no scratches or fingerprints on the reading surface of the drive.

I have tried in several computers and some have been running Fedora 8. The BIOS , date and time are setup correctly.
