I changed the /etc/hostname & the myhostname to example.com - fingers crossed I think that sorted it.

/etc/mailname was example.com in both so I adjusted the mail server to be mail.example.com as...

Yep you can ping mail.example.com from the relay server.

Just to clarify again - everything works ok and email sent from the relay is delivered. I just get a weird warning on the mail...

example.com = x.x.x.1 = relay
mail.example.com = x.x.x.2 = postfix email server

example.com[x.x.x.1] is my webserver which relays emails to the postfix on mail.example.com[x.x.x.2]

Question Postfix relay question

Hi Guys,

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this. I have 2 servers one which uses a postfix relay to the main postfix email server.

This all works great (thanks for the tutorials Falko)...

Figured it out - it was mysql as I suspected. Incase this helps someone else:

I couldn't see an error until I grep'd the log files and found some errors tucked away in auth.log

Postfix: Issue sending emails

I've used the Ubuntu 8.04, postfix/courier with virtual users HOWTO which works great.

I'm in the process of moving postfix to it's own slice, however it will still connect to the original mysql...

I've used the postfix, mysql, dovecot, virtual users howto which has worked great over the last few months.

I have one minor query:

Occasionally I have users messing up and sending emails...

Only one little niggle, I've currently got a catchall, but I keep getting spam to a specific address - e.g. lots of spam,...
