Thanks. My error turned out to be related to the application itself not ISPConfig. Once that was fixed I was good to go.

I wasn't sure if doing so would break something else later down the line.

I decided to use ubuntu moving forward, but Amazon Linux would've been my first chance if ISPConfig supported...

Just that the complete management stack is geared for Amazon Linux ( which from what I've seen is binary compatible with CentOS / Redhat ).
