Install email server on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
 

Hello,

I have tried to install this countless times with countless different tuts but I always fail somewhere. Could someone please help me and guide me installing an email service which supports IMAP(s) for Ubuntu 10.04?

I've wasted over 20 hours trying to do this and somehow I always fail and end up with removing all the packages one by one because something is not working.

Yes I have tried that one as well but without any luck.
I will create screenshots of every step and post them here because I'm pretty sure I'll fail again lol.

Edit 1:
I think it's the hostname which is causing me problems. I don't know what hostname I should pick, atm the hostname of the server is paradox-productions.net. But I run multiple sites on it so it's not really correct. Anyone who can give me advice how you would pick a hostname? Can I just use server1 like in the tutorial?

Edit 2: Anyone who can recommend a guide with postfix, mysql & dovecot for ubuntu 10.04?

Don't just use a domain (like paradox-productions.net), use a hostname (like server1.paradox-productions.net). Make sure server1.paradox-productions.net exists in DNS.

Eventually I used server1.wouterds.be (followed this guide on Linode: http://library.linode.com/email/post...tu-10.04-lucid).

Now I can receive emails but I can't send them. Do I have to install seperately and SMTP server?

This fixed it for me!
Finally, after many failed attempts it's working!
