Linux desktops susceptibility to botnets?

I refer to an article by Russinovich:

My impression is that these things are being written to exploit Windows clients and servers, correct or not? And that Linux desktops are pretty not affected?

Any comments and/or feedback would be appreciated.

I'am not aware of any botnets that target Linux desktops. All rootkit infections on Linux systems that I've seen in the last years were caused by vulnerabilitys in web server scripts.
