CentOS 5.3-hot swap doesn't work
Hi,
I've recently installed CentOS 5.3 with software raid (1) and other useful and time consuming stuff. Everything besides hot swap is working fine. Hardware supports it. It's Intel S5000PAL motherboard. When I plug in a sata disk while the system is running nothing seems to happen. dmsg and /var/log/messages does not show anything. Also if I unplug a disk while the system is running it crashes. What could I do? Thanks in advance. |
I don't think you can use hot-swapping with software RAID.
|
So when one of the disks fails the system will just crash instead of switching to the second drive ?
|
No, the system will continue to work fine, but you will have to shut it down to insert a new hard drive.
|
I guess that will have to do.
Thanks for the information :) |
One more thing.
Does that mean I wont be able to hot swap any other disks that are not in raid ? |
I don't think hot-swapping will work unless the disks are in a hardware RAID.
