yum issues
hi all,
i have a problem with yum in the sense that it checks for dependancies when i try to install the software. i know that is standard but it tries to update packages i dont even need(at least i dont think so). therefor it ends up with a chunk of mb to install and never usually succeeds. is there a work around this? eg get rid of all but essential dependancies? sorry...forgot to mention, im on fedora 8 |
I would not mess with yum. What you can try is
Code:
yum clean all |
thanks for the reply falko, i tried your suggestion. however, when i tried yum installing php-gd, i got this output.
this is part of it Code:
---> Package usermode.i386 0:1.98-1.fc10 set to be updatedQuote:

I'd disable all repos except fedora.repo and fedora-updates.repo.

For some reason, yum keeps refusing to download things (beryl) and returns errors that various repositories can not be downloaded: "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: extras"
Every now and then the box thing in the upper right corner of the desktop keeps displaying messages about how it can and cannot download updates. Even while I have a solid connection it shows "cannot download updates". mobile spy I think this is one of the sources of my continuous problems trying to acclimate to Fedora8...someRandomGuide.com > download this >HTTP ERROR 404... |
Fedora 8 is outdated (EOL which means its repositories don't exist anymore). That's why you get 404 Not found errors. Please use Fedora 15 instead.
