Google Apps

When I try and change the mx records as instructed by Google by adding their mx records ( http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/...n&answer=33352 ), it seems to make all of my dns records not work. Any idea why and has anyone successfully made this work with google?

till 10th March 2008 08:50

I see no reason why it should not work with OSPConfig. Several poeple reported that they use google apps and its seems to work for them. Please make a screenshot of the dns manager settings that you made for the domain.

I tried to set it up based on these two links:

MX: http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/...352&topic=9196

CNAME: http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/...283&topic=9196

Any errors in your syslog? Do you get error messages when you restart BIND?

dayjahone 19th March 2008 20:06

No errors when I restart BIND:

# /etc/init.d/bind9 restart
* Stopping domain name service...
...done.
* Starting domain name service...
...done.

I didn't see any obvious problems in var/log/syslog:

Whenever I add the Google stuff, nothing works.

falko 20th March 2008 15:23

Please check the zone file in /etc/bind/ if it has all the records that you've configured.

dayjahone 20th March 2008 15:30

I deleted the Google records in order for the site to work. The standard A records and MX records are in /etc/bind/. Changing the MX records shouldn't affect the A records, should it?

No.

Did you check the pri. file for your zone in /etc/bind?

dayjahone 20th March 2008 18:10

Yes, and the pri file contained the A records (ftp and www) and MX record. For some reason, when we add the Google MX records, the two A records stop working.

falko 21st March 2008 14:06

Have you tried to add the Google records manually to the pri. file? Does it work then?
