What about a ircd tutorial ?In google there's nothing about the subject(i didn't find any!) and i find irc a great tool for instant messaging.Would be fine also to point the attention to those irc softwares (client and server) that encrypts the communication making people more aware that privacy is an important issue in the free software comunity.

Yeah I must agree. I would also like to see some in depth information about irc and how to set up a decent server.

So what is keeping you both from writing one :-)
To be onest ... i copied an example configuration from /usr/share/doc/ircd-ircu/example.conf.gz and i have a default configuration for it.You can have a go and let me know if there is any problem irc.gabrix.ath.cx .I understood part of it but has an its own syntax and i would like to hear from someone maybe knows more than me. I would like to hear more about encryption for example or how to connect your server to a irc network,the proper way of doing it when you first start up. So i'm not the right person to write a tutorial i can't say more than to go and see /usr/share/doc/ircd-ircu/ dir .

My lack of knowledge and my limited brain capacity is what keeps me from doing that

the hard part of the IRCD is the config file settings
its takes about an hour or so to get it right
so im trying to get that right so i can give an pre-config ver of it out
so its just a basic starter ver
and you can mod it yourself to your needs
the config and compiling is easy part
the 2 hrs of hell i had doing that part was easy to the config work lol :)
back to the fun for me ... ) later All :)

Do you run Debian ? If so have a look at /usr/share/doc/irc-ircu/examples.gz it might be of some help ... but maybe you already done that !

what i done so far
a lot of typing n a lot of yelling
but thats normal
ok
sides that ... down to the story :
i got it working
with SSL
i got some basic .conf files
i done some mods to it
like added
banlist / sysuser / exceptban
so its easyer to add info into them files
than loading up the IRC.conf file n finding the right place to add it :)
problems : no serivces : and aheap of normal .. first time loads up ...
but its getting there
maybe on wednesday i may have 70 % done

That's strange. Were you logged in with your username?
zcworld
24th January 2007, 11:59
yep
i was log in ... with my username
i was thinking maybe you or anthoer mod was looking / editing the page so thats why i was unable to edit
but thanks again for adding that :)
linking status :
i got 3 IRCD servers up
192.168.1.102 >>>> HUB <<<<
| | - > services
| | - > stats server
|
|->192.168.1.106 >>>> Server 1 <<<
|->192.168.1.110 >>>> Server 2<<<<
i will post my link files later on for how i did it :) .. at the time they need to be renamed and cleaned up ( the linking names ) and made sure they work :)
here we go
my conf file
hub = well its you HUB / services / status server
irc1 = Server 1
irc2 = server 2
linking files : 27 KB (http://zcworld.googlepages.com/hubstatsservices2IRCD-servers-conffi.rar)
they are really just to show you what i did ...
free tip :
WRITE down WHAT IP = SERVER
its saves you life
like
IP ADDRESS///what is it ///name
------------------------------------------
192.168.1.102///CORE : server / service HUb/// zcworld-evil.mine.nu
192.168.1.106///server 1 /a///: s1.XXXXXX>XXX
192.168.1.110///Server 2 /b///: s2.XXXXXX.XXX
/// = about 3 tabs

i guess i will later on .. like in a week or 3 ... write up an part 2
to this
like on how to build
other services
and set them up .. ( simple setup ) type of thing ...
but i think for starters what i did .. will get people off the group
after all
im still NEW to running / config an IRCD / services server
so ... eeek ...eek eeek lol :)
