RC.status under ubuntu/debian

Hello all,

I've been searching around, but can't find a satisfacting answer. Is there a way to install the "rc.status" and equivalent commands for ubuntu/debian?

An install keeps tripping over the commands which it can't find.

What is this good for? What are you trying to do?

Within an install it tries to check whether the installed software is running or not.

Can you explain in more detail? What is your aim?
