I've been screwing with this for an hour now. I can barely do anything at the console because the keyboard is apparently not US. I've figured out how to type a / and - but just about everything else I need to use to reconfigure the keyboard shows up as a foreign language character.
Anyone know a quick and easy way to fix this?

Yes, connect to the system with an SSH client like PuTTY (if you use windows on your host system). PuTTY uses your host system's default keymap.

It's a little difficult to do that without a working network on the virtual machine. And since the keyboard is fubar I can't get the network working either. Nevermind, I was trying to save a little time by using a prebuilt system but ended up making one manually in less time than I spent trying to get this one working.

Maybe one of these links would have worked?

Since X isn't installed on that server I doubt setxkbmap is available. But, I'll fire it up again later today and see if it is.
