I updated ISPConfig last year and it automatically made a backup. I would now like to restore that; however, I'm not sure what version of ISPConfig I updated from. Is there a way to tell from the backup?

Yes, in the backup of the /home/admispconfig directory you will find a file named config.inc.php which contains the version number.
