I've been searching for a monitoring solution what will provide me with the following features:
1. monitor s/w raid for failure
2. monitor processes for failure
3. monitor the fact that the server is there
4. server will proactively contact a central server to give it updates or alternatively, will email them to a designated account.

if anyone has any good ideas of an ideal package to do this on centos linux 4, I would appreciate your input. I am looking for simplicity and it just works! :D

Thanks ahead of time,

Frank.

First place I looked. What I am looking for is a way to NOT install a whole bunch of extra stuff to do very simple monitoring. I'm looking for a way possibly using a perl script and cron to perform the task.

Thanks anyhow.

Frank.
