openoffice is so slow

i want to migrate to ubuntu , 30 pcs in an school, but trying the distro, i realice, that the system is slow, and the open office is more than slow, i cant work with it, so i think that maybe there is a way to tuning the system , anybody can help me?

You can run top in a command shell to find out what programs use up your memory and your CPU performance.
