im a newbie to linux. Im setting up a Suse 10.0 Linux webserver. I cant get the network configuration to work properly. I use a static IP.
IP:- 10.145.20.2
Mask:- 255.255.255.0
Gateway:- 10.145.20.1
DNS:- 10.145.87.100
Proxy:- 10.145.87.157.
Servername and websitename devportal.nwpg.gov.za
I can ping the server and am able to access some of my internal website, but when try to access google/hotmail it gives an error, "www.google.com could not be found, Please check the name and try again".

i havent setup apache and Mysql yet.

can you PLS help me with the network config and advice the best way i can setup. the server will be used to run a portal that will host about 8600 pepole so you can just imagine may worries about security...

You wisdom would be much appreciated...

Please change your subnet mask to 255.0.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0.
I guess that's the reason your server cannot contact 10.145.87.100 and 10.145.87.157.
